10k encounters in UP in 6 years under the Yogi govt
Meerut topped the list of districts.
Lucknow: More than 10,000 police encounters with criminals have taken place in Uttar Pradesh during the last six years of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led BJP Government in the state. In terms of the number of encounters, Meerut topped the list of the districts of the state with the highest number of 3,152 encounters that have taken place since 2017, in which 63 people were killed and 1,708 were injured. In these police encounters, a policeman lost his life while 401 other cops were injured. A total of 5,967 criminals were nabbed in the action of the UP Police.

As soon as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took over the reins of the state, the government intensified its crackdown on criminal elements and mafia, implementing a zero-tolerance policy towards such elements in order to strengthen the state’s law and order. According to statistics, over 10,000 encounters have occurred in the state during the six-year crackdown on criminals. Because of the actions of the police, the state, which was once known for poor law and order and mafia atrocities on innocent people, is now considered a crime-free state not only in the country but also internationally.
It is worth noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other senior leaders and investors lauded the state’s law and order situation during GIS-23. The UP Police Department worked strategically to combat crime, and the crackdown on criminals and encounters was part of its strategy, instilling fear in the criminals to the point where these antisocial elements fled the state. Since 2017, the UP Police have conducted 10,713 encounters, with Meerut Police conducting the most (3,152), followed by Agra Police, which conducted 1,844 encounters in which 4,654 criminals were arrested, 14 criminals were killed, and 55 cops were injured. In Bareilly, there were 1,497 encounters, with 3,410 criminals killed and seven arrested. 437 criminals were injured during the encounters in Bareilly.
