12th annual conference of RSSDI UP chapter kicks off in Prayagraj At the AMA convention centre of Sangam city

Prayagraj: The 12th annual conference of the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) UP branch began on Saturday at the AMA convention centre here. ‘Diabetes: Today and Tomorrow’ is the conference’s theme. On the first day of the conference, Prof Sangita Srivastava, vice-chancellor of Allahabad University, spoke about the ravages of the silent disease diabetes. “Diabetes is a wild dog inside the human body. Diabetes is the path to a long and healthy life if the dog is kept on a leash. It is a disease of lifestyle. As we settle into a lavish lifestyle, we frequently succumb to type 2 diabetes,” she explained.She went on to say that the primary causes include obesity, stress, poor eating habits, a lack of physical activity, a low metabolic rate, and genetics. If we control at least three factors, we can control the sickness, and if we don’t take care of our bodies, no one else can,” she stated.The doctors who attended the seminar underlined that diabetes knowledge and awareness are developing at a rapid rate. The last decade has witnessed a dramatic transformation in the way we look at diabetes, from the fundamentals of pathophysiology to the introduction of innovative therapies. Dr. Mukulesh Gupta of Lucknow kicked off the scientific session with a lecture on gaps in managing cardiovascular risks in diabetic patients.

Dr. Sajid Ansari of Lucknow presented what is new in the therapy of heart failure in diabetes, while Dr. Anand Shankar of Patna highlighted the science to art in diabetes weight control. Dr. L Sreenivasamurthy of Bangalore discussed precision medicine in diabetes, while Dr. V Nagesh discussed the complications of managing Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Dr. Anuj Maheshwari, chairman elect of the RSSDI UP branch in Lucknow, revealed key findings from the Covid diabetic research during the epidemic. ‘Diabetes and stomach are interconnected,’ said Dr. AK Singh of Varanasi. Dr. Arun Kumar Pande, an endocrinologist from Lucknow, highlighted erectile dysfunction in diabetic individuals.Dr Anupama Kaul, a senior professor of nephrology, spoke extensively on diabetes and kidney illnesses, ranging from the impact of obesity and weight loss on chronic kidney disease to therapeutic options. Dr Rajeev Awasthi from Lucknow covered thyroid and its relationship with metabolic syndrome, while Dr JK Sharma from Delhi emphasised the problems, particularly in the older population. Dr. Ajay Shukla, an endocrinologist from Lucknow, discussed calcium supplementation in diabetic postmenopausal women, while Dr. Ram Nath Iyer, a neurologist from Mumbai, discussed obstructive sleep apnea.
