Muzaffarnagar: An official claimed that the proprietors of four jaggery production plants in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, were arrested on Friday for alleged power theft. A vigilance crew from the electrical department discovered the devices “stealing” power. Dhirender Kumar, executive engineer of the power department, told the media that the suspects were charged under relevant provisions of the Electricity Act. They were identified as Ankit Kumar, Sher Singh, Gufran, and Mehboob, all of whom lived in the district’s Nai Mandi region. “The four jaggery producing units have also been fined Rs 15 lakh,” the source added.
