New Delhi, July 2: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has slammed Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal and the Congress for criticizing the BJP-led government on the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), claiming that the grand old party’s leaders had gone “berserk.”
Goyal stated that it is imperative that legislation be drafted by unifying and including all citizens of the country, and the Supreme Court has also backed several of its rulings. “I believe Congress and its leaders have gone insane. It is vital that legislation be enacted that unites and includes all citizens of the country. The Supreme Court has also mentioned invoking UCC five times in various decisions.
Kapil Sibal has forgotten the great work that Prime Minister Modi has done for minorities. “No government has done as much as the Modi administration,” Goyal remarked. The union minister also stated that the BJP will receive cross-party support for the UCC.
“We have a full majority in Rajya Sabha, and I believe many leaders from other parties want the country to unite. Many parties, I believe, will back the BJP on the Uniform Civil Code. We’ll get cross-party support for this,” stated the minister. Earlier on Saturday, Kapil Sibal stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should notify the people about the UCC plan. The previous union law minister further stated that the Civil Code of Uttarakhand cannot be adopted throughout the country.
