Kanpur, 30 April (HS): All dads send off their girls with great pomp after the wedding, but a father in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur welcomed his daughter home after her divorce, accompanied by a band. We returned her precisely as we had sent her out after her wedding. We want her to start over with her chin up, said her father, Anil Kumar, who works for BSNL. Anil’s 36-year-old daughter Urvi, an engineer at New Delhi’s Palam Airport, married a computer engineer in 2016. The couple resided in Delhi and had a daughter. Urvi’s in-laws allegedly harassed her for dowry, prompting her to file for divorce. On February 28, the court awarded the pair a divorce.
I fought hard to salvage the relationship after eight years of agony, beatings, and taunts, but it eventually broke down, she claimed. While taking her home, I arranged for ‘band baaja’ so that a positive message could be delivered to society and people would strive to understand their daughters rather than disregard them after marriage, according to Anil Kumar.
Urvi’s mother, Kusumlata, stated, “I am looking forward to being with my daughter and granddaughter. And it’s a terrific sensation.”
We initially assumed Urvi was getting married for the second time. But when we realized her father’s motive, it was overpowering,” said Indrabhan Singh, a neighbour. Meanwhile, Urvi appreciated her parents’ gift and stated that she would take a break before starting over.
