National Summit on Organic Quality organized by National Institute of Biologicals

National Institute of Organic is playing a vital role in ensuring that only quality organic products reach the health system, thereby rapidly taking forward our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s mission of ensuring better health and well-being for all. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said this while addressing the National Summit on Organic Quality organized by National Institute of Biologicals (NIB) through virtual medium today. Dr. Bharti Praveen Pawar, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Dr. VK Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog also addressed the summit through video message.

The National Summit organized will act as a platform to bring together stakeholders, regulatory authorities and academia with the objective of deliberating on various aspects of ensuring quality of organic products. The summit will lead the way in capacity building, technology enhancement and innovative biological developments to promote and determine the quality of the public health system, contributing towards the mandate of the Government’s ‘Healthy India’ initiative.
Dr. Mandaviya said that biologics have emerged as excellent alternatives to therapy with conventional chemical drugs. He said that in the medical emergency in the last few years due to the Covid 19 pandemic, it has been proved that our biopharma and diagnostic industry has proved to be a strategic asset to meet the public health needs not only in our country of India but also globally. Is. Which has given meaning to the feeling of universal brotherhood with “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, meaning “The whole world is one family”.

The Union Minister congratulated the National Institute of Biologicals for bringing several stakeholders on a single platform. He said that this summit would provide a basis for gap analysis in the quality assurance approach currently prevalent in India. He said it would help in upgrading the infrastructure and technologies of the country’s biopharmaceuticals and in-vitro diagnostic industry. Dr. Mandaviya said that this initiative will give a fillip to the potential to develop world class products and promote public health.
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Bharti Praveen Pawar also addressed the conference. He highlighted the fact that the National Institute of Organics is uniquely poised to conduct a thorough and unbiased assessment of the quality of organic products. It said that this institute does not focus only on testing and evaluation, but also on promoting good manufacturing practices, monitoring adverse events and collecting necessary information, and other regulatory agencies and industry to ensure the quality and safety of biological drugs. Cooperating with partners also plays an important role.
The Minister of State mentioned the need to adopt digital measures in the Biopharma industry. He urged the biopharma manufacturers to develop products keeping in mind these disruptive changes and create bioprocess models for the future. Dr. Bharti Praveen Pawar said that the regulators as well as the testing laboratories must keep pace with these emerging technologies and practices so that these life saving drugs can be brought to the market at the fastest pace. He also urged the industry representatives to focus on R&D and innovation, self-reliance in APIs, upgradation of quality standards, increased digitization, regulatory simplification and increasing shift towards exports.
A Coffee Table Book was also released by the dignitaries during the event.
On this occasion, Shri Rajesh Bhushan, Health Secretary, Ministry of Health; Shri S Gopalakrishnan, Special Secretary, Ministry of Health; Shri Jaideep Kumar Mishra, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Health; Shri Rajeev Wadhawan, Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor, Ministry of Health; Dr. Anoop Anvikar, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health; Dr. Harish Chander, Director, National Institute of Biologicals; Deputy Director (Quality Control), National Institute of Biologicals and senior officials of the Central Government were present. Dr. Pramod Kumar Garg, Executive Director, THSTI and Professor YK Gupta, Chairman, AIIMS Bhopal were also present on the occasion.
