The Ministry of External Affairs registered its strong protest through diplomatic ties that Pakistan cannot hold elections in Gilgit-Baltistan as it is an internal part of India. The protest came after the Supreme Court of Pakistan gave orders to hold elections in the region.

It was clearly conveyed by MEA that the entire Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, including the areas of Gilgit and Baltistan, are an integral part of India by virtue of its fully legal and irrevocable accession,” further added that “Instead, Pakistan should immediately vacate all areas under its illegal occupation,” .
