SHUATS celebrates University Day

PRAYAGRAJ: Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS) celebrated its University Day on Thursday. On this occasion, the founder VC of SHUATS and Bishop of Yeshu Darbar Church, Most Rev Prof. Rajendra B. Lal’s contribution for the development of the institute was also remembered. Students and staff have joined the University Day program through a virtual platform due to the Covid-19 epidemic, while directors and deans participated in the program along with social distancing and security.

SHUATS Chancellor Dr. J.A. Oliver said that 110 years old institute has earned national and international fame. He said that under the leadership of founder Vice Chancellor Most Rev. Prof. Rajendra B. Lal, the institute gained university status. He also gave good wishes to Vice Chancellor on his birthday. SHUATS Chancellor also honoured Bishop R. B. Lal by presenting a memento on the occasion.

Bro. Chiagoziem Otuechere from Nigeria offered a thankful prayer. He said that God has blessed Dr. R.B. Lal as a strong pillar to the institute.

The founder VC of SHUATS Most Rev. Prof. Rajendra B. Lal thanked God for his blessings. He said that all colleagues have also contributed to the development of the institute, for which he expressed gratitude. He said that with the efforts of the scientists of the university, many varieties of wheat have been released, which are proving to be a boon for the farmers. Dr. Lal said that now there is a plan to move away from the traditional breeding system to molecular breeding, which will read the utmost requirement in the future as the vision of the SHUATS is to feed the hungry. He said that by planning properly and using technology, India can also feed its neighboring countries by producing a sufficient quantity of food. Bishop Dr. R.B. Lal said that always keep your faith in God, God will definitely bless you. He described the Bible as the book of the relationship between man and God. All human beings should read it, only then they will be able to know the Lord Jesus Christ.

Dr. Sudha Lal, Director Campus Ministry and Vice President of Yeshu Durbar Church thanked God for the day. She said that God has chosed Dr. R.B. Lal according to his plan of which Dr. Lal left the prestigious job from America and joined Allahabad Agricultural Institute and with the blessings of God, this institute is on the path of continuous development.

Pro VC (AA&QA) Prof. Lawrence shared that SHUATS founder Vice Chancellor Dr. R.B.Lal as educational administrator, scientists, philosopher and servant of God, further carried the vision of Dr. Sam Higginbottom, the founder of Allahabad Agricultural Institute. Dr. Sam Higginbottom wanted that AAI should be a degree awarding institution and with the tireless efforts of Dr. R.B. Lal, the AAI became Deemed University on 15 March, 2000. On 29th December, 2016 the institution got the status of University under UP State Act passed by the Uttar Pradesh Legislature.  

Earlier, Dr. Ashish Alexander welcomed the guests. Pro VC (PMD) Prof. Rev. Sarvjeet Herbert presented a devotional bhajan with prayer. Registrar Prof. Robin L. Prasad honoured the Dr. R.B. Lal with shawl followed by a shawal given to Dr. Sudha Lal by Dean Dr. Prof. Ranu Prasad. Students of North East and Thelogy students also presented devotional bhajans.
