Mainpuri: A health official claimed on Friday that over 21 students were unwell and seven others were hospitalised after reportedly drinking contaminated water at the Government Engineering College in UP’s Mainpuri. The situation came to light when district health officials found that a big number of students from a nearby institution had been hospitalised to a hospital. PP Singh, Chief Medical Officer of Mainpuri (CMO), and Madan Lal, Centers for Medicare and Medical Services (CMS) of Maharaja Tej Singh District Hospital, arrived to the district hospital quickly to gather information and assess the pupils’ conditions. According to Madan Lal (CMS), at least 21 students enrolled in Engineering programs at Government Engineering College have been brought to hospitals with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea since February 9. He claimed seven pupils are now being treated at the hospital and that others have been discharged. The condition of 21 engineering college students deteriorated after they drank water from the water cooler late on Thursday. “Everyone was rushed to the district hospital, where seven kids were hospitalised, while others were discharged after first assistance,” he explained.”Water samples from water tanks, purifiers, and chiller machines have been transferred to the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for clinical examination, and it appears that polluted water may have been the source of the disease,” a health official stated.According to a college teacher, the administration was also notified after the health of engineering students deteriorated. The Food and Safety Department team arrived at the college and sealed the contaminated water sample for analysis. Students who felt ill as a result of polluted water raised concern about the presence of toxic compounds in the water. According to health officials, more investigation is underway.
