UP creates a new caste category, apes center

Lucknow, February 08 (HS) The Uttar Pradesh government has finally come to the rescue of young men and women who were victims of an anomaly and denied new reservation benefits.

The government has removed the discrepancy and prepared a new list of castes that can avail of the benefits. New instructions were issued to district officials on Friday.

In the light of this decision, some of the castes which were listed in the backward category in the state have been placed in the general category.
It has gone by the central list in this regard. There is no more difference between the two lists now, a government official said. Several complaints were made to the state government in this regard.

Uttar Pradesh was the third state, after Maharashtra and Jharkhand, to support the central government legislation to provide ten percent reservation in job and educational institutions to students in other than OBC and SC categories.

The legislation was passed by parliament last year and has been approved by more than half of the states.

General category certificates will be issued to youths of these backward castes. They can seek admission and job on that basis. A clear-cut instruction has been given to all the district magistrates by the state’s appointment and personnel department.HS / RN
