UP man allegedly dies in custody, accused policeman sent to police lines

Baghpat, July 3 (HS): After a 26-year-old man was reportedly beaten brutally in police custody, resulting in his death, an Uttar Pradesh cop was sent to police lines. Police dismissed the man’s family members’ accusation of violence, adding the situation is being investigated. Sajid was snatched up by police from Noorbagh neighbourhood on Sunday night and transported to Ratauli police outpost under Khedha police station, according to his father Babu. He was tortured and handed over to us when his health deteriorated. We transported him to the hospital, but physicians pronounced him dead, according to Babu. Following his alleged murder, Sajid’s family members and other local neighbours stopped a road, asking that the perpetrators be brought to justice.

Circle Officer Prita Singh has been assigned to investigate the accusation, according to Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya. He stated that the cop suspected of attacking Sajid has been sent to police lines. The victim’s autopsy is being done, according to the SP, who said that no complaint against any policeman has been filed so far by Sajid’s family members.
