What does the 2022 Vidhan Sabha election results say
Sandeep Mitra.
The long wait is over. The Vidhan Sabha 2022 election results are out. People have given their mandate and the mandate is loud and clear. The results will have a far reaching impression on the politics which India will witness in the days to come. Though the opinion is regional its echo will resonate in the 2024 General Elections.
Politically the hints are clear :-
- The Bharatiya Janta Party is the no. 1 political party in India that means the leader of the pack.
- The Bharatiya Janta Party also is subject to anti-incumbency votes but the alternative the Indian National Congress Party is just not up to the mark to cross the finish line with majority of votes or seats.
- Slowly but surely the Indian National Congress Party is losing its ground and the Aam Admi Party which is also aiming for a CONGRESS MUKT BHARAT is sure to become a formidable second alternative to the Bharatiya Janta Party. Therefore the Congress has a lot to worry about.
- The voter today has a clear understanding. “Today we need to stand as one for the Nation. The National spirit comes first and today the Bharatiya Janta Party is the only alternative to carry the burdens of the nation as a whole be it a world wide Pandemic, International politics, neighbour threats and a working economy which is evolving under challenges and also the politics of uniform governance.
- The voter is also looking for an alternative and is willing to change the government but the political parties like the Indian National Congress Party and the Samajwadi Party does not have much support or you may say they lack numbers due to the lack of strong leadership. The results of Goa, Manipur and Uttrakhand shows that the Congress has not been ripped apart and they can still play the role of a strong opposition in the states. Whereas in the state of Uttar Pradesh, it definitely shows a formidable Yogi Adityanath who has gone against the huge tide of anti incumbency to get the all important post of the Chief Minister for the second time. Therefore giving hope to majority of the vote bank to keep their faith alive in Uttar Pradesh. But in comparison to the 2017 Uttar Pradesh elections the Bharatiya Janta Party has got lesser number of seats (2022: 255 seats in comparison to 2017: 312 seats) and Samajwadi Party has been able to cover some of the lost ground (2022: 111 seats from 2917: 47 seats only) to now play the important role of a strong opposition in the coming five years. But it no way takes the credit away from the mighty Yogi Adityanath and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop the anti incumbency first time in 30 years. Other factors also came as the Bahujan Samajwadi Party down played active role to contest the Vidhan Sabha elections which some of the experts can say that their voter got divided into both the Bharatiya Janta Party and Samajwadi Party. If we look back the 2017 Vidhan Sabha election the Samajadi Party under the leadership of the inexperienced Akhilesh Singh Yadav was not only up against huge anti incumbency but also division in its own Party with the rift starting in his family where his uncle Shivpal was against his leadership and the Modi Sunami was engulfing every state election and the BJP’s vote percentage was consistently on the rise. In the end the only negative in the 2022 Vidhan Sabha election which has yet again been disappointing is the dismal vote percentage. This certainly needs to improve.
- Apart from the voter who visualizes a strong Nation, there is another set of voters who feel the pressure of ever increasing burden of fuel prices, increase in food and beverage prices, rise in electric bills, rise in water and house tax which is certainly the result of poor governance, galloping inflation rate and strict laws like the de-monetization, implementing the GST, and nearly facing new farm laws etc., for them they have now got a blue eyed boy in the form of Arvind Kejriwal whose Aam Admi Party took the Punjab election by storm ripping apart the ruling party and other challengers so much so that the heavy weights could not even secure their own contesting seats. Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu lost from the Amritsar East assembly seat by a margin of 6,750 votes against AAP’s Jeevan Jyot Kaur Kejriwal. Captain Amrinder Singh who floated the Punjab Lok Congress Party lost the Patiyala seat to Ajit Pal Singh of Aam Admi Paarty. Charanjit Singh Channi lost to his namesake, AAP’s Charanjit Singh, from his traditional seat of Chamkaur Sahib, while another AAP candidate, Labh Singh Ugoke, defeated him from Bhadaur. Arvind Kejriwal not only reduces electricity bills to zero but also offers Delhi wallas, booz at a 50% discount rate. What else could a Punjabi ask for. This way the Aam Admi Party has repeated a grand performance as in Delhi by ripping apart the opposition under the new leadership of Bhagwant Mann .
What the results mean for the citizens of India……..
