Prayagraj: Prayagraj police on Wednesday arrested Zainab, wife of Atiq Ahmed’s brother Ashraf, who is imprisoned in Bareilly currently.

Police picked her from her maternal home in Hatwa village. Police is currently interrogating her to locate whereabouts of Atiq Ahmed’s wife Shaista Parveen, who has gone missing for the last two days.

Police is busy zeroing in on her location but all their efforts have so far turned futile. According to authorities, the conspiracy to assassinate Umesh Pal was hatched on the directions of reputed mobster Atiq Ahmed’s brother inside the Bareilly prison in Uttar Pradesh. According to police, a meeting of Umesh Pal’s assassinators also took place in Sadaqat Khan’s hostel room. Sadaqat Khan, one of the case’s primary conspirators, was apprehended by the UP Police Special Task Team (STF).

The conspiracy and meeting information revealed a day after an accused in the Umesh Pal murder case was murdered in an encounter in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The perpetrators devised the plan to murder Umesh Pal after discussing the details with Atiq Ahmed’s brother Ashraf, who is imprisoned in Bareilly. The suspects plotted Umesh Pal’s murder in a “room of a Muslim hostel,” according to the commissioner of police. According to the reports, Atiq Ahmed, who is presently imprisoned in Sabarmati, provided orders to murder Umesh Pal. The UP STF has now asked from Ashraf a list of the shooters involved in Umesh Pal’s murder. A raid was also carried out by the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in the Bareilly jail where Ashraf is imprisoned.

Incidentally, Atiq Ahmed was previously imprisoned at Bareilly. Raju Pal’s murder was one of the most shocking incident in which Atiq Ahmed is accused. Meanwhile, security has been increased near the barracks where former Legislator Ashraf is being held, and security services are on high alert.

According to sources, Ashraf and other convicts may be transferred to another jail. However, an official declaration in this respect is needed.
