Another senior doctor dies in Kolkata
Kolkata,28 April: Within 24 hours of the death of one of the seniormost doctors of West Bengal Medical services, another senior Orthopaedic Surgeon in a leading Private hospital here died early today sending shockwaves among the medical fraternity in the state.
After the sudden death of Assitant Director of West Bengal State Health Sevices, Bimal Kanti Dasgupta (60) in the city’s only Infectious Disease Hospital at Beliaghata here on Sunday, senior Orthopaedic Surgeon in the Belle View Private Hospital Sishir Mondal passed away at AMRI Hospital early today.

However, like that of Dr Dasgupta, the cause of death of Dr Modal was also not announced by the hospital and referred their cases to the government-appointed Medical Audit Committee for formally announcing the reasons for their death, though according to several leading doctors both of them died because of Coronavirus and the government was deliberately dilly-dallying to announce the same in order to contain the death figure.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed deep condolence at the passing of Dr Mondal and through her twitter handle, she said ‘Very sad to know that Dr. Sisir Mandal, Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon attached to Belle Vue Hospital in Kolkata passed away on 27th April night. My deepest condolence to his bereaved family members and colleagues. May God give them the strength to overcome this excruciating loss’
Earlier in similar messages, the Chief Minister also deeply condoled the death of Dr Dasgupta and said ‘We are deeply pained with his untimely demise’.
Though no exact figure is available so far, according to preliminary estimates, more than 200 doctors, nurses and other medical services staff in the state have so far been affected by COVID 19 and gone to self-quarantine.
