Budget 20-21/ Provision for Senior citizens and minorities

February 18, Lucknow. Budget 2020-21 was presented in both the houses of legislature on Tuesday. While youth remained at the centre in this budget of Rs 5 lakh 12 thousand 860 crore 72 lakh, attention was also given to the senior citizens, the disabled and the minorities.

In the budget, the state government has made a provision of Rs. 1 thousand 459 crore for old age / farmer pension scheme under Social Welfare Department, and also made a provision of Rs. 621 crore for Disabled Pension Scheme at the rate of Rs. 500 per month per beneficiary under Department of People with disabilities.

Under the Minority Welfare scheme, a provision of Rs 783 crore has been made for improvement in education, sanitation, health, drinking water and basic infrastructure facilities in minority dominated areas under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram.

Social welfare

• Provision of Rs. 1 thousand 459 crore for old age / farmer pension scheme.
• Provision of Rs. 1 thousand 251 crore for National Old Age Pension Scheme.
• A provision of Rs 500 crore made under the National Family Benefit Scheme.
• For the marriage of girls belonging to the families living below the poverty line in the state, “Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana” has been started for which a provision of Rs. 250 crore has been made.
• A provision of Rs. 2 thousand 36 crore for scholarship schemes for scheduled caste students.
• A provision of Rs. 1, 375 crore under scholarship schemes for backward class students.

Welfare of people with disabilities

• Provision of Rs. 621 crore for pension under Divyang Pension Scheme at the rate of Rs. 500 per month per beneficiary.
• A provision of Rs. 30 crore proposed for the establishment of integrated special secondary schools.
• Palanhar scheme proposed for the upbringing of children of differently abled couples. A provision of Rs. 25 crore proposed for this scheme.
• A provision of Rs. 37 crore proposed for providing camp, tricycles, wheelchairs etc. to the differently-abled by organizing camps in all 75 districts of the state.

Minority welfare

• Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram, a provision of Rs. 783 crore for improving education, sanitation, health, drinking water and basic infrastructure facilities in minority dominated areas.
• A provision of Rs. 479 crore for the purpose of providing education in modern subjects along with religious education in recognized madarsas and Maktabs.
