The Uttar Pradesh government after a spurt of alleged rape and murder cases of women has been up in action to remove the tag of the state being not able to protect its women and children. The entire government machinery is up in arms to educate its citizens against such crimes as well as create a channel to hear their grievances. A platform for women to discuss their rights with District Magistrate in the event ‘Haq Ki Bat, Zilaadhikari Ke Sath’ has therefore been created.

Lucknow, November 25, 2020

Under the ‘Mission Shakti’ campaign, launched by the hon’ble Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Women Welfare and Child Development Department organised a virtual programme ‘Haq Ki Bat, Jilaadhikari Ke Sath’ in every district across the state on Wednesday.

In the event, women and girls had a conversation on the topics of sexual violence, gender inequality, domestic violence, and dowry violence via video conferencing.

The District Magistrate of each district listened to their problems and answered their queries related to child abuse, child marriage, child labour, domestic violence, etc.

Manoj Kumar Rai, Nodal officer of Women’s Welfare Department and Mission Shakti, said, “This event has given women a chance to raise their voice against problems on the appropriate forum. Apart from child abuse and domestic violence, issues related to nutrition and health were also discussed.”

It is to be mentioned that people working towards preventing domestic violence, female harassment, child labor were also conferred with the title of ‘Shakti Champions’, and logos and badges were also given on behalf of the Department of Women Welfare and Child Development.

Among other states, the Uttar Pradesh government has successfully combated the dreaded COVID -19 and in a similar fashion has taken the task to protect women and children against heinous crimes. But events like ‘Haq Ki Bat, Zilaadhikari Ke Sath’ should not be a once in a while affair whereas it should be a once a week afair.
