The fear of Carona could not stop a Bengali marrying his Chinese sweat heart
Contai (West Midnapore)/ Kolkata, 6 February (HS): Overcoming the fear of deadly Carona Virus, a 27-year-old textile trader from Contai in West Midnapore district, married his Chinese bride from Guangdong province at a simple ceremony in his house yesterday. According to reports, Pintu Samanta who has been living in Guangdong city in southeast China for the past 7 years, met Angela Wu in his neighborhood there and after the initial introduction through a common friend they decided to marry both the families across the international border agreeing for the marriage. Accordingly, members of both the families met each other and decided to hold the marriage ceremony in India on 5 February. But as the day for their marriage approached, the danger of Coronavirus has surfaced and started spreading like wildfire claiming hundreds of lives across China. This has also forced the Chinese government to impose a complete locked down of almost the whole country and a blanket ban on all travel plans. But sensing danger at the initial stage, the couple fled the country in December and reached Contai as they did not want to postpone their marriage. But unfortunately, the parents and other family members of the Chinese bride could not come as they were not so lucky to get Indian Visa because of the present situation and the locked-down condition in China. This, however, did not prevent the couple and Pintu’s family here from carrying out the marriage ceremony yesterday with the usual pomp and gaiety. Hindusthan Samachar/Ankur Bhattacharya/Manish
