Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to declare candidates for the forthcoming UP MLC elections. The BJP’s state unit has shortlisted candidates for six legislative council seats that are currently vacant. “Names for the assigned seats will be determined soon as well. We will shortly disclose the names of six MLC candidates,” CM Yogi Adityanath remarked. With this declaration, the election fervour in state politics has been reignited once more.On the other side, numerous candidates are being explored in the BJP for these seats. According to reports, three regional presidents are being considered: Manvendra Singh (Kanpur-Bundelkhand), Rajnikant Maheshwari (Braj), and Mahesh Chandra Srivastava (Kashi). All three have served as regional president for two terms in a row. According to BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi, the party works all year to prepare for elections and the organisation always assigns duty to key personnel. “These elections will also be crucial for the party since they will increase the party’s representation on the legislative council. Workers are ecstatic with the recent MLC win for teachers and graduates, and the organisation is already working at the grassroots for the flagship initiatives,” he went on to say. The BJP recently won MLC elections in Gorakhpur-Faizabad, Kanpur, Bareilly-Moradabad, and Allahabad-Jhansi. The BJP was defeated in the Kanpur teachers’ block seat. In this seat, the party finished third, while independent candidate Raj Bahadur Chandel won. He was elected to the MLC for the sixth time.
